Case Study
Land Trust Alliance

Background

Founded in 1982, the Land Trust Alliance is a national land conservation organization that works to save the environments people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America. The Alliance represents more than 1,100-member land trusts supported by more than five million members nationwide.

Challenge

For over 10 years, The Alliance had been located in an antiquated office building in a space that no longer met the organization’s needs. Significant growth demanded that the organization consider moving due to the lack of contiguous expansion space at the existing locations, access to natural light and a collaborative work environment.

Solution

West, Lane & Schlager worked with The Alliance to create a strategic real estate plan that resolved the organization’s space efficiency and growth goals. WLS helped The Alliance identify a full floor opportunity with balconies that was one block from two primary metro lines.

Results

A 10-year lease provided the organization with brand new space and an opportunity to grow. Not only was the new space contiguous, as compared to the prior space, but The Alliance also had access to balconies for its environmental and conservation mission, all at the lowest cost alternative.
