Rich is a founding Principal of West, Lane & Schlager, LLC, and is an active professional in the commercial real estate industry, where his primary focus is the representation of law firms, associations, and political consulting firms. He works mainly in downtown Washington, D.C., but has also completed significant transactions in the suburban office markets in Virginia and Maryland.
Rich entered the commercial real estate industry in 1986 as a broker for Barnes, Morris & Pardoe (currently known as CBRE). Between 1990 – 1996, he worked as a tenant representation specialist at Grubb & Ellis before leaving to co-found WLS in 1996.
During his 30-year career in commercial real estate, Rich has earned a reputation as a leading market expert, creative transaction developer, and leader in tenant representation. Rich’s specialty has earned him representation of many prominent law firms, corporations, trade associations, and nonprofit organizations in long-term strategic real estate planning and transactions.

Rich’s deep knowledge of structuring transactions on behalf of tenants results in his clients retaining him on a regular basis, while continuing to draw on his expertise well after the transactions are completed. As a result, Rich has earned a track record of retaining his clients over long periods of time and representing law firms in multiple transactions. This is a testament to his market expertise and client service, which are hallmarks of Rich’s business style.
EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS, & COMMUNITY WORK
Rich received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Tulane University.
He is currently serving on the boards of Hope for Henry Foundation and Edmund Burke School, and previously served on the boards of The Abramson Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Washington, D.C. area.
Rich is a member of Commercial Real Estate Brokers Association, where he has been consistently recognized as a top-producer. He has received the Top 10 award multiple times in his career.
Rich has also written and had published numerous articles on commercial leasing.
Outside the office, Rich is an avid tennis player and political junkie. He has worked on local, state, and national campaigns at the highest levels.
